American Rights at Work's second annual Eleanor Roosevelt Human Rights
Awards Celebration brought together over 500 guests representing a
diverse mosaic of today’s workers’ rights movement, including leaders
from the human rights, civil rights, faith, student, arts, and labor
communities.
This year’s honorees demonstrate that upholding workers’ rights is good
for business and crucial for a vibrant, democratic society. Walden Asset Management and Cingular Wireless are setting new standards for workers' rights in the business and investment communities. And artists like Tom Morello, Danny Glover, and Studs Terkel are lending their fame and creativity to the fight, and with their help, workers are winning!
Our MC, Jackie Guerra, host of our new radio show Workin' It
on Air America, brought levity to the evening, and we also heard from
several committed and engaging members of American Rights at Work’s
Board of Directors: Bishop Jane Holmes Dixon, Sen. John Edwards, Carl
Pope, Beth Shulman, Hon. Hilda Solis, and President John J. Sweeney.
We would like to thank everyone whose support and inspiration helped to
shape our event this year. We will build on the momentum of the
evening to support workers in their struggles for workplace democracy
one victory at a time. We look forward to working together to make the
right to organize a reality for America’s workers.
