Position Overview:
American Rights at Work, a nonprofit advocacy organization focused on
protecting and advancing workers’ rights to organize and bargain
collectively, seeks a full-time Finance Officer/Assistant to Board Chair.
Primary Job Responsibilities:
Finance & Accounting
- Prepares and reviews program budgets, forecasts, operating results, financial reports and 990 tax returns in compliance with government regulations.
- Processes accounts payable and accounts receivable. Prepares balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries and bank reconciliations (monthly).
- Enters vendor invoices into QuickBooks accounting system and produces weekly aging reports to ensure vendor payments.
- Manages and maintains expense distribution, documentation, and reimbursement.
- Assists in preparing audit schedules and reports as required and oversees the implementation of 501c(3) and 501 c(4) status.
- Serves as a liaison to Directors and staff, assisting them with accounting-related issues and other duties as assigned by the Deputy Director.
- Responsible for maintaining corporate bylaws, articles of incorporation and corporate resolution for both organizations American Rights at Work (501c4) and American Rights at Work Foundation (501c3).
Human Resources
- Point of contact for all employees regarding benefit enrollment, benefit questions and problem resolution, benefit termination and COBRA enrollment.
- Implements benefits open enrollment, communication to employees, and enrollment problem resolution. Acts as a liaison with insurance benefits vendors for day-to-day problem solving including claims issues.
- Administers bi-weekly payroll functions, changes in payroll deductions, maintains the organization's personnel records and tracks vacation and leave schedules.
- Conducts new hire orientation for staff members and interns.
Assisting the Chair
- Using discretion and good judgment, assists the Chair with administrative tasks including drafting correspondence, scheduling meetings, coordinating travel and logistics, and general office organization.
- Serves as the main point of contact for the Chair.
Qualifications:
- 2-3 years of experience
- Successful financial management experience and knowledge of associated software, including QuickBooks, and application of financial policies.
- Proficient user of Microsoft Office, including advanced proficiency with Excel
- Excellent organizational skills, including time and project management
- Must be detail oriented, accurate and reliable
- Ability to prioritize and handle several projects simultaneously
- Uses expertise, independent judgment, and professional discretion in accomplishing work and coordinating the work of staff on projects related to financial management and Board support.
