WASHINGTON, DC—Today the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions will begin confirmation proceedings for President-elect Obama’s nominee for Secretary of Labor, Representative Hilda Solis (D-CA). American Rights at Work Executive Director Mary Beth Maxwell and Chair David Bonior both called on the Senate to expedite Solis’ confirmation and released the following statements:
Mary Beth Maxwell: “Congresswoman Hilda Solis is the perfect choice for Secretary of Labor. She brings the expertise and the leadership required to lead an agency in desperate need of reform. America’s working families can count on her to help restore our middle class and the American Dream.”
David Bonior: “Congresswoman Solis will continue championing workers’ rights and job creation at the Labor Department just as she has in her years of public service. As a member of the American Rights at Work Board of Directors, she has shown her steadfast commitment to workers’ rights and expertise on the need for reforms in labor relations.”
