Washington, DC—Yesterday, members of the Writers Guild of America voted overwhelmingly to end their strike and return to work after an agreement was reached over the weekend with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.

American Rights at Work Executive Director Mary Beth Maxwell issued the following statement regarding yesterday’s vote to end the strike:

“American Rights at Work congratulates the writers who waged a tenacious, creative, and ultimately successful fight against studio executives.  The writers’ strike thankfully has ended, but it serves as a powerful reminder of the vital role workers and their unions play in standing up against demanding and greedy corporations in this new economy.”  

“The writers’ struggle helped bring much needed publicity and solidarity to a critical workers’ rights dispute. We look forward to continuing to bring attention and mobilize support for the workers’ rights battles that are currently being waged across the country.  The rest of America’s workers deserve a Hollywood ending, too.”
