WASHINGTON, DC—In September 2009, American Rights at Work submitted comments to the U.S. Department of Labor in favor of a rule requiring federal contractors and subcontractors to provide notice to their employees of their rights under the National Labor Relations Act.  Today, on news that the U.S. Department of Labor will publish a final rule to this effect, Kimberly Freeman Brown, Executive Director of American Rights at Work, released the following statement:

"This is a good day for working people.  In order for workers to have their rights to form unions protected, they must first know what their rights are.  The Department of Labor today is helping take some of that burden off the shoulders of employees, and place it on employers who share responsibility in making their workplaces fair.

In today's economy, working families are hungry for their rights to be protected.  While there is much more the Obama administration can do to protect the rights of workers, the rule change is a good basic step.  It is a positive sign that the federal government is expecting its contractors and subcontractors to take the high-road in employment practices."
